Unfortunately we had some downtime from tonight to this morning. The problem was an unstable Cisco router that was dropping packets. When I was informed of the problem it only required a quick restart and everything seems to be working again. We apologice for the problems this has caused for all users.

MSN Upgraded
There was a problem with the MSN transport today, seemed hung up in a loop. I upgraded it to version 0.10.3 to fix the problem and it seems to be running smooth again now. Thanks to Martin Groth for reporting the problem to me.
Will also just remind everyone that 0.11 is coming along on msn-beta.jabber.no. There is support for file sending and receiving at the momemt, although sending is a litt unstable. Not so long till we upgrade! 🙂
Google Talk on the Jabber Network
Finally we can announce the opening of Google Talk to the rest of the Jabber Network. We have already tested this on Jabber Norway and it works, but for now we should consider this a test phase. Nevertheless this is great news for Jabber and XMPP whom just got a great big stable server that is a good alternative to MSN, Yahoo and AIM.
For more information read Google Talkabout: XMPP Federation.
MSN Transport Test
The next version of the MSN transport is undergoing heavy development these days. A few weeks ago I installed an msn-beta.jabber.no transport based on the trunk svn code to test how it is coming along. The last few days there has been added support for file transfer with the new MSN type clients (MSN 7.5 etc). Legacy support for Windows Messenger is still not working but is coming soon.
Note that the file transfer support is for receiving files at this moment, but the sending part is going to be added in a few days, maybe a couple of weeks worst case. No guarantees!
If you should choose to test the msn-beta transport this will not have the same uptime as msn.jabber.no. I svn update and patch the sources pretty often, with the subsequent restart. Last week I restarted the transport on an average twice a day. If you want to follow the development of the transport you can look into the mailing list.
Should you choose to test the msn-beta transport just go ahead, but remember when we migrate from test to production on msn.jabber.no I will not migrate the spool from msn-beta. This will result in that nicknames and roster sorting you have done will get lost. All contacts will be saved (they are saved on the MSN servers!) For those just sticking to msn.jabber.no they will get the spool upgraded.
I guess it will take perhaps a few months till file support will be added to the msn.jabber.no transport. If the support gets good enought to test it in production I will probably implement it. Even if it has not yet gotten released.
Happy testing! 🙂
Jabber Norway in English
Since we have a lot of users that does not speak our native toungue we have decided to put up another page with english information. The basic mission of Jabber Norway is to provide a secure, upgraded and feature rich jabber server with good uptime and stability. We like to be current on versions of ejabberd and transports so we upgrade pretty quick. This might be a problem some times but for the most this has worked fine for our users. Every time we do service we send out a message on the server for online users so everyone knows what is going on.
More information on the english page will come soon. For now, just register on the Jabber server and start enjoying!
